KOTA KINABALU: The contempt of court case involving Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal over his alleged remarks linked to the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir has been fixed for hearing on Feb 3, 2026.
Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan also directed the prosecution to file its affidavit by Dec 26, with a reply due by Jan 9, 2026, and submissions from both parties to be filed on or before Jan 19, 2026.
During Thursday’s proceedings, Shafie’s presence was dispensed with, although the court reminded counsel to ensure he attends court whenever the case is mentioned.
Shafie’s counsel, led by Chen Ket Chuin KC together with Jakariya Ab Jalil and Bartholomew Jingulam, informed the court that an application to strike out the committal proceedings was filed on Dec 15.
Chen said the defence would also file an affidavit to support the application and to oppose the committal proceedings, a matter confirmed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalan.
