Masiung demands action on incomplete Kuamut sport complexes
Masiung said all assemblymen have sacrificed and those sacrifices must be appreciated by authorities, adding that the sacrifices are not personal but for the progress, peace and political stability of the State.
KUAMUT: Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah has urged the Youth, Sports Development and Creative Economy Ministry to intervene when contractors fail to deliver on sports complex projects in his constituency.

“I faced criticism during the state elections over the incomplete sports complex in my constituency,” he said when debating the State Budget 2026, here, Monday.

“I have played my role in planning and securing allocation for the sports complex. The Ministry’s task is to complete the sports complex.

“We want the Ministry to terminate contractors who do not perform. Monitor the progress,” he said.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
Masiung said assemblymen do not have the authority to monitor projects. He said their role is to formulate policy, request allocation and propose ideas, not to carry out implementation tasks.

“Please, Minister, Assistant Minister, make thick notes. Not thin,” he said, urging ministry officials to inspect sports complexes during visits outside their main areas.

He said the aspirations of youths must be fulfilled, noting that Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) champions include athletes from rural areas, even those without sports complexes.

Masiung also called for the expansion of the Starlink internet programme to every village and said the programme helps students access the internet.

“The Starlink is temporary as there is supposedly a Federal Government programme called Jendela. However, I do not know whether the Jendela is closed or open,” he said.

He also raised several infrastructure issues in his constituency, particularly in District Polling Centre areas and pointed out that residents still use boats as there is no road access.

“Every time they go down to nearby towns, they have to rent boats. How many boats need to be rented? Boat rental is RM800. Not including fuel,” he said.

Masiung said he has raised the road issue many times at the state assembly.

“We are given excuse after excuse, but when it comes to elections, they ask for support and votes,” he said, adding that he believes there is already a plan but wants it expedited.

He also spoke about the need for electricity in his constituency, pointing out that electricity poles have been standing in some villages for 10 years, but electricity supply is still unavailable.

“We want the State Government to help us solve this problem. Find whatever the problem is and solve it,” he said.

Masiung said all assemblymen have sacrificed and those sacrifices must be appreciated by authorities, adding that the sacrifices are not personal but for the progress, peace and political stability of the State.

He said the State is only on loan from the younger generation and that current leaders must manage and develop it well so future leaders do not have to struggle.

“We must pave a smooth way for our young generation who will lead our beloved State in the future,” he said.
