PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim affirmed that while other languages can be promoted, mastery of Bahasa Melayu remains paramount.
Speaking in Langkawi, he said all Malaysians, across Chinese, Tamil, English, and international schools, must master the national language, which he called the “language of technology, AI, and knowledge.”

He added that once Bahasa Melayu’s position is secured, discussions on matters like the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) can follow.
The remarks come after DAP’s Nga Kor Ming sought UEC recognition, drawing criticism from Umno Youth’s Dr Akmal Saleh, who stressed alignment with national education policy.
The UEC is a Chinese independent school qualification not recognized for public university entry.
