KOTA KINABALU: Disability rights advocate and UMS student Dr. Fatimah Sabrina Mohammad drew attention at the MPMS Social Services Networking Forum in Kota Kinabalu with her message that OKU should be seen as strategic assets.
She called for a bold, collaborative shift to build a proper support ecosystem, warning that gaps between training, support and employment remain wide.
Speaking at a forum on strengthening skills development and employment for OKU, she stressed that Sabah needs an inclusive system that avoids siloed efforts.
Panels from PERKESO, the Kimanis Rehabilitation Complex and Cheshire Sabah discussed linking rehabilitation training to real job opportunities.
Dr. Fatimah said only coordinated, collective action can create meaningful skill and employment pathways. She noted that UMS now enrols students with disabilities and implements a one percent OKU hiring policy to promote inclusivity.
The MPMS forum brought together government agencies, NGOs, rehabilitation institutions and social industry partners to expand Sabah’s social services network, aiming for fair and effective support for vulnerable groups.
