LABUAN: Penampang Preppies Swimming Club emerged as the overall champions in the two-day regional Labuan International Schools/Lions held here.
It secured 1,556 points and pocketed cash of RM3,000, certificates and a trophy in the competition participated by 284 swimmers from 16 clubs nation-wide including Brunei.
The first runners-up LIS scored 1,461 points and won RM2,000 cash, certificates, trophy followed by Sea Dragon Swimming Club with 951 points bringing home RM1,000 plus certificates and trophy.
The major event open to elite, para athletes and special needs participants was sanctioned by Malaysia Aquatics.
Awards were also presented to those in the Best Boy, Best Girl and Swim green category.
Category: Paralympic (all ages) Jing Min Rasha Lim and Nur Izza Hadiran Haki from Sabah Para Swimming Association; Open category: 19 yrs and above - Best Boy/Tan Jie Sheng (LIS); Age 16-18: Best Boy/Dylan Su Yu Herng (SM St Anthony Labuan) and Best Girl/Nur Syaziellah Tsen Sey Jing (LIS); Age 13-15: Best Boy/Alden Wilbern Kiew Joon (P’pang Preppies) and Best Girl/Serene Chin Shi Wen (Tiger Shark Swimming Club); Age 11-12: Best Boy/Skye Teo Shi Wen (LIS) and Best Girl/Arianna Daniella Aziz Shahrizan; Age 9-10: Best Boy/Edric Conner Liew Kett (P’pang Preppies) and Best Girl/Lee Esmeralda Ava (Sea Dargon Swimming club); Age 8 and under: Best Boy/Rafif Razqa Rahmatdan (Victoria Swimming club) and Best Girl/Chanella Ezra Tan (Victoria Swimming club).
Tournament director Jessica Lee said that the meet was a meaningful platform to inspire youth participation in healthy activity as well as nurturing camaraderie and discipline.
