MANILA: The reported fatalities from Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) has risen to 204, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.
Of the total, 141 fatalities were recorded in Cebu, one each in Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bohol and Leyte, two in Southern Leyte, three in Capiz, six in Agusan del Sur, 27 in Negros Occidental and 20 in Negros Oriental.
In its 6 am situation report, the NDRRMC said the powerful storm also left 156 people injured in Cebu, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur, while 109 others remain missing.
Tino made landfall on Tuesday, battering several parts of the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
Cebu and Negros Occidental, among the worst-hit areas, experienced severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall as the typhoon swept across the islands.
A total of 823,977 families, comprising 2.9 million individuals, were affected by Tino’s onslaught, with 73,214 families, or 282,490 people, seeking shelter in evacuation centres.
