KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese tourists spend an average of RM7,000 each during their stay in Malaysia, contributing significantly to the nation’s economy ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026,
Says reported.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming (

He said Malaysia expects to welcome around 47 million international tourists and generate RM160 billion in revenue during the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
Nga said Malaysian businesses stand to gain immensely if even a fraction of the visitors spend at that level, as the benefits would reach hotels, eateries, retailers, handicraft traders and even the media.
He reminded Malaysians that the public also plays a role in ensuring tourists enjoy their visit by maintaining cleanliness and showcasing the country’s culture and hospitality.
Between January and April this year, Malaysia recorded 1.4 million tourist arrivals from China, making them the third largest group after visitors from Singapore and Indonesia.
In 2024, the number of Chinese tourists rose sharply to about four million — a 160 per cent increase from 2023 — aided by the government’s 30-day visa-free policy, which has been extended until the end of 2026.
