SINGAPORE: A 61-year-old Singapore permanent resident from Malaysia, Teo Guan Huat, pleaded guilty in a Singapore court to the horrific sexual molestation of toddlers at the preschool where he worked as a cook,
CNA reported.
This unspeakable crime, which the prosecution called one of the most horrendous acts of sexual abuse in a preschool setting, occurred regularly during the children's naptime between May and November 2023.
The court heard that Teo exploited his dual role of kitchen staff and helper during naptime, focusing on vulnerable one and two-year-old girls who would innocently hug him when they saw him.
The disturbing incidents only came to light when an employee reviewing the school's closed-circuit television footage for an unrelated matter saw Teo's hand under a child's nappy.
While the school management confronted Teo and he resigned a week later, police only received a report in early December, by which time the school's CCTV system had been reformatted, though police later recovered the deleted footage.
Teo, who cited his paedophilic disorder and belief that children could not speak out as his motivation, now faces a requested ten-year jail term as he is too old for caning.
