Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Quik Chern Xin successfully defended his recurve title in the Grand Final of the National Archery Championship held in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan recently.
He defeated Muhd Haiqal Danish Syamsul Affandi in the final to take the title.
Sabah Archery Association president Datuk Ram Singh congratulated Quik for his achievement and said he is now the top ranked men’s recurve player in the national system, while fellow Sabahan Evan Rich Chong who reached the semi-final stage is ranked fourth.
He is very hopeful that both players will get to represent the country in the upcoming 33rd SEA Games hosted by Thailand in December.
“We are very proud of their achievement and together with another our homegrown talent Syafiq Busthamin, who is also in the national squad, there is a strong possibility that we may see history in the making with the national SEA Games men’s recurve team consisting of three Sabahans for the first time,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh continued her dominance in the women’s compound event by taking the gold medal in the individual event by beating Nur Balqis Farhanah Fazrullah 142-138 in the final, while another Sabahan that Goh Chun Shen also did well to reach the last eight in the men’s compound qualifying round.
