Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old woman was fined a total of RM25,000 for hiring immigrants and allowing them to stay in her premises.
Sutriani Shamsuddin pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, to two charges against her.
On the first count, Sutriani was fined RM10,000 in default one months’ jail for each of the two illegal immigrants she had hired.
She was found employing the 37-year-old Indonesian and 21-year-old Filipino, who did not have any document at 6.35pm on Oct 12 this year at the Restoran Payau Borneo in Lorong Permai 111, Manggatal Plaza Phase in Taman Permai Stage 11, Manggatal.
The offence, under Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63, carries a jail term of one year, or a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant involved.
On the second count, Sutriani was fined another RM5,000 or a month behind bars for permitting a 48-year-old Filipino without any document at the same place and time.
During mitigation, Sutriani who was not represented, asked for leniency.
However, Prosecuting Officer Abdul Lamit from the Immigration Department urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence.
Meanwhile, a private clinic was fined RM6,000 in default seven days’ jail for having unregistered products.
Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentenced to Kenson Medical Clinic@Surgery Sdn Bhd after its representative pleaded guilty to the charge.
The clinic was found having the unregistered product which was 500 strips of Ziverdo Kit containing Ivermectin at 2.10pm on Sept 9, 2021 at the clinic in 88 Marketplace, near here.
Prosecuting Officer Mad Sapri Tumiran from the Pharmacy Department prosecuted while counsel Luke Resa Balang defended the company.
