THE State development agenda or Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) is on the right track and the State Government will continue to intensify the momentum of the State’s development, in addition to improving the quality of life through various programmes and initiatives.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor said the Government will continue to strengthen the development of rural infrastructure and utilities as well as communication networks, improve the quality of education, health and human capital, provide more affordable housing and reduce poverty.

Speaking at the conferment of awards in conjunction with the Head of State’s 69th birthday at Istana Seri Kinabalu in Kota Kinabalu on Oct 1, he said the Government will also increase employment opportunities, improve the level of security and more importantly, redevelop the State’s economy which has suffered a slowdown and been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hajiji said Sabah has spent more than RM2.39 billion on development projects as of Sept 4 this year under the Second Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

“This shows a performance of 45.67 per cent of the more than RM5.23 billion allocated under the plan for 1,118 approved development projects in Sabah,” he said. Meanwhile, the Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin said the comprehensive SMJ Development Plan 2021-2025 is showing a positive impact.

He said this can be seen through the amount of foreign investment and implementation of development programmes that reflect the Government’s concern for the people. “Through the effective leadership of the State Government with a comprehensive development plan and a close relationship with the Federal Government, I am confident that Sabah will continue to be on the right track to achieve success more rapidly,” he said. He said the digitisation initiative towards Smart Government by the State Government within five years starting 2020 is able to meet the needs. “Information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovation through the provision and use of various platforms has successfully facilitated control and prevention measures while dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, widespread business transactions, the creation of new job opportunities based on digital technology, the continuity of government and private administration management and the continuity of learning in educational institutions.

“All this is the result of the skills and creativity of creating something new to the point of digital technology becoming a necessity in people’s daily lives.

“The people’s expectations for efficient and effective services will always increase,” he said in his 69th birthday message at the Istana Seri Kinabalu in Kota Kinabalu on Oct 1. Juhar said economic and social activities are becoming more vigorous and the arrival of tourists is increasing, an indicator of positive recovery and growth of all sectors affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. “The recovery measures taken by the State and Federal Governments have a positive effect on the State.

“The initiative is also supported by various efforts and cooperation from all including individuals, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and companies with government interests in ensuring that all sectors are restored faster.

“Therefore, I call on all levels of society to continue to work together and fuel the spirit of unity as a pillar in the prosperity of Sabah,” he said.

He said although the country is now entering the transition to an endemic phase in curbing the spread of Covid-19, the public is reminded to always take prevention measures, including staying compliant with the advice issued by the Government from time to time.

“The Government continuously empowers the people with the knowledge to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in protecting themselves, their families and the community from getting infected,” he said.

Juhar also expressed appreciation and gratitude to all members of the public service and security forces, the private sectors and all parties for their dedication and contribution to the wellbeing and security of Sabah as well as all front-line personnel involved in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
