Pandora Papers leak: Govt won’t stop any action

Kuala Lumpur: The Government is leaving to the authorities to take action against any party involved in the Pandora Papers leak.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob gave the assurance that the Government would not stop the authorities from taking any action if they had strong evidence.

“In the country, we are open, if it is found that there is a case against anybody, the authorities can take action, we are open and leaving it to the authorities (to investigate).

“The authorities, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) read all the reports, news. It is up to them, we will not stop them (from investigating),” he told a press conference after visiting the Seri Perak Public Housing, here, Saturday.

Last Monday, the Dewan Rakyat maintained its decision to disallow a motion to debate the leaked Pandora Papers claimed to contain confidential financial files of several prominent figures in the country. The motion was brought by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, four police reports were lodged over the Pandora Papers exposé, and two investigation papers have been opened relating to the matter, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said.

One of the investigation papers was referred to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) on Oct 14 while another paper will be referred to BNM on Monday (Oct 18) for further investigation.

“The police have also recorded the complainants’ statement,” he said.
