Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian labourer was sentenced to three months’ jail on Friday for trespassing into a house at Bukit Bendera here last month.
La Fiu, 40, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 12.30pm on Oct 28 in a house at Jalan Inda.
Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting informed the court that on the said day, a complainant, who was working in the said house, had lodged a police report claiming that an unknown man had trespassed into the house.
The complainant said she was about to enter her room from the kitchen when she stumbled upon an unknown man, later identified as La Fiu in the house.
La Fiu then ran away and hid in a storeroom in the house.
Fearing for her safety, the complainant contacted the police, who then came and arrested La Fiu.
Unrepresented, La Fiu told the court that he was running away from a group of people in three cars who were chasing after him and that they wanted to kill him.
He said that he entered the house through the unlocked backdoor and wanted to hide inside while adding that he did not touch anything inside the house because his intention was not to steal.
He requested for a lenient sentence and claimed that he has a passport but that his work pass had expired on Oct 11.
The court ordered La Fiu to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and ordered him to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence. La Fiu was charged under Section 448 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to three years or fine or both on conviction.
