CORONER Amir Shah Amir Hassan expressed disappointment on Monday after no deponent was ready to testify in the continuation of inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, with the first anniversary of her death just weeks away.
He said he was upset that the hearing could not proceed as planned despite preparations having been made earlier.
“Actually, I am so upset because today there is no witness, despite the preparation,” he said during the proceedings.
Amir Shah said the court had given careful thought to the progress of the inquest before vacating and fixing the hearing date.
He reminded parties involved that July would mark the first anniversary of Zara’s death, making it important for the inquiry to move forward without delay.
The Coroner said the passage of time was among the factors considered by the court when managing the conduct of the inquest.
He also noted that September would mark one year since the inquest commenced, having started on Sept 3, 2025 and about 73 deponents had been testified.
