TAWAU: A street art mural project in the town centre, undertaken by the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) in collaboration with private companies, is expected to further strengthen Tawau’s identity and image.
Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the initiative not only beautifies and enhances the town’s landscape but also provides opportunities for young people to showcase their artistic creativity.
He said the murals could also become a new attraction for visitors while contributing to local economic activity.
Speaking after officiating the Street Art Mural Project at Jalan Haji Karim on Saturday, Nizam expressed hope that building owners would continue supporting local authorities in efforts to improve the cleanliness, safety and appearance of the town.
The mural, completed in three days by Andi Syafie Andi Parentah and Yaul Acap on a building owned by businessman William Chin, features the themes “Bumi Peladang” and “Tawau Lestari”, highlighting Tawau’s agricultural heritage through images of Bornean wildlife, cocoa cultivation, village landscapes and local food culture.
