Kota Kinabalu: Muslims in Sabah have been urged to embrace the spirit of Hijrah through self-reflection, addressing personal shortcomings, enhancing knowledge, strengthening moral values and fostering closer ties within the community, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said.
He expressed hope that the occasion would strengthen bonds of brotherhood and inspire renewed commitment towards reinforcing the unity and solidarity of the ummah.

Speaking at the Sabah State-Level Ma’al Hijrah Celebration 2026M/1448H on Wednesday, Hajiji said the annual observance was not only to commemorate the migration of Prophet Muhammad SAW from Makkah to Madinah but also to symbolise transformation, sacrifice and renewal towards a better way of life.
He said Muslims should draw lessons from the Hijrah, particularly the Prophet’s success in spreading the message of Islam while establishing the first Islamic government in Madinah, with leadership that balanced material progress and human development.
The event was officiated by Head of State Tun Musa Aman.
Referring to this year’s theme, “Madani Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati”, Hajiji said it reflected efforts to encourage unity and mutual respect, adding that a Madani society founded on civilisation, knowledge, integrity and magnanimity could be achieved by drawing inspiration from Islamic values and the example of the Ansar and Muhajirin.
He also expressed hope that the new Islamic year 1448H would bring hope and blessings despite global challenges, and said Malaysians hoped the expected peace agreement between the United States and Iran would help bring lasting peace and security to the Middle East.
