Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's humanitarian and volunteer spirit took centre stage as community leaders, volunteers and dignitaries gathered for the 2026 World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Celebration Dinner at the Port View Ballroom, Hakka Hall.
The event was graced by Sabah Head of State Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Musa Aman, underscoring the state's recognition of the vital role played by volunteers and humanitarian workers in supporting vulnerable communities.

"This auspicious celebration was aimed at honoring the services of MCRS volunteers, as well as instill compassion, volunterism, and humanitarian values which remains central to the organisation's mission in helping those in need," said Malaysia Red Crescent Sabah Chairman, Datuk Asnan Chung
Organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS), the dinner served as a platform to acknowledge the dedication and contributions of volunteers who continue to strengthen humanitarian outreach, welfare initiatives and community-based assistance programmes across the country.
Among those who attended include Assistant Minister of Women, Health and People's Wellbeing Datuk Rina Jainal, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor.
A key highlight of the evening was the presentation of the MRCS National Awards, which recognised individuals and organisations for their outstanding commitment and contributions to humanitarian causes.
Beyond the awards, the celebration showcased Sabah's rich cultural heritage through a series of performances that reflected the state's diversity and community spirit.
Guests were treated to Melodi Bumi di Bawah Bayu by invited performers, while Lansaran Warisan highlighted the traditional cultural artistry of the Murut community.
The programme also featured Malam Berlagu: Simfoni Muhibah dan Kemanusiaan and a special performance by Christal Ann Stephen, the 2026 Sabah Sugandoi champion, whose appearance added a Kaamatan-inspired touch to the evening.
