KOTA BELUD: Two locals were detained and six litres of kratom water (air ketum) were seized in two separate raids in the district on Thursday.
Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said the operation followed intelligence gathering and continuous monitoring in an effort to combat the increasingly worrying abuse and sale of kratom water.

He said the first raid in Kampung Pirasan, Jalan Menteri, saw the detention of a man believed to be involved in the sale of kratom water.
“A search at the location led to the discovery of 1.5 litres of kratom water.
“The suspect brought to the Kota Belud IPD to assist with further investigations,” he said.
In the second raid in Kampung Taun Gusi., another man was detained along with the seizure of 4.5 litres of kratom water.
“The total kratom water seized amounted to six litres, with an estimated value of RM100.
“Both suspects have been remanded for further investigation under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952,” he said.
