Kota Kinabalu: Firefighters faced the risk of electric shock while carrying out a bushfire operation near KFC Jalan Sulaman, Sepanggar, recently.

In a video shared online by PB Fendy, the incident occurred in early June when firefighters from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to put out a bushfire in the area.

A firefighter expressed concern over illegal electricity cables believed to have been installed by squatters nearby, saying they could pose a serious hazard during emergency operations.

“If I stepped on this, wouldn’t I die?” he said, referring to the exposed cables found at the scene.

The firefighters managed to spot and avoid the cables, but remained concerned over hidden wires that could not be seen and could endanger their lives.

Sabah Electricity has been urged to take immediate action over the presence of the illegal connections.
