Kota Kinabalu: A consumer has expressed frustration after claiming that his electricity bill from Sabah Electricity rose sharply to between RM650 and RM850 per month, despite no significant change in household usage.
Facebook user Ridwan Adri said his previous monthly bills were around RM90 to RM150, based on normal household consumption involving fans, lights, a refrigerator, washing machine and occasional night-time use of air-conditioning.
He said the latest bill showed a sudden and unexplained spike in electricity usage without any new appliances added to the home.
According to his records, consumption reportedly increased from 378 kWh in February 2026 to 1,251 kWh the following month, before rising further to 1,656 kWh.
Ridwan also questioned the spike as his home was reportedly unoccupied for more than a week during the month due to Hari Raya travel.
He said Sabah Electricity had attributed the increase to higher recorded usage and confirmed meter readings, though he called for a clearer explanation of the sudden surge in consumption.
