Kota Kinabalu: Seven secondary school students have been detained to assist investigations into a viral video involving the alleged assault of a female student, acting City police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said.
He said the students, comprising six girls and one boy aged between 15 and 17, were detained at about 3pm on Thursday following investigations into the incident.
Syed Lot said the male student is believed to have recorded the entire incident before the video was circulated on social media.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
According to him, preliminary investigations found the incident occurred at about 8am on May 22, with the victim allegedly assaulted by five female students and suffering bruises on both shoulders and legs, swelling to the left ear and a minor injury to the left ear, while all those detained have been released on police bail pending completion of the investigation papers.
