Kota Kinabalu: The Sri Pasupathinathar Temple will conduct its fourth Mahakumbabishegam from May 25 to 29, marking a major once-every-12-years consecration ceremony to renew the temple’s spiritual sanctity and bless devotees.
The temple was established in Bukit Padang in 1990. After decades of community effort, it is recognised as Malaysia’s only Shanmatha temple, dedicated to the six classical traditions of Hindu worship.
Situated on a lakeside site, the temple has long served as a cultural and religious landmark.
Its architectural and spiritual foundation was inspired by temple traditions in Baroda and Sridambel, India, and guided at its inception by blessings from the Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Kanchi.
The upcoming consecration ceremony will be led by Chief Priest Shiva Sri A.P. Muthukumara Sivacharya.
Rituals will include the sanctification of kalasams (sacred finials), Vedic chanting, and the infusion of divine energy into the sanctum, followed by a 48-day mandalabishegam period of daily rites to stabilise the spiritual renewal.
Temple President Datuk Dr K. Mathavan, on behalf of the management and organising committee, extended an open invitation to devotees and members of the public to attend the auspicious occasion.
