KUNAK: A concession contractor responsible for maintaining Jalan Kadazan Mostyn here has begun repairing the damaged road structure along the route starting Friday following complaints from villagers submitted to the Public Works Department (PWD).
The nearly three-kilometre gravel road serves as a vital access route to several settlements, including Kampung Kadazan 2, Kampung Mostyn Lama, Kampung Sri Bahagia, SK Mostyn, the Sabah Electricity Main Intake Substation building and nearby residential areas.
Two machines, namely a grader and a backhoe, began repair works on Friday, with the road improvement works expected to be completed before the Aidiladha celebration.
A complainant said potholes along the road had disrupted vehicle movement, especially for smaller cars, and could cause suspension damage.
Residents also urged the government to expedite the long-awaited upgrading project for the gravel road, while former JKKK chairman of Mostyn Lama and Kampung Sri Bahagia called on the contractor to closely monitor the route, particularly during the rainy season, which affects the road surface structure.
