Kota Kinabalu: The 5th Mimpaagat Borneo International 7s football tournament held at the Penampang Sports Complex over the weekend resulted in an impressive tally of 256 goals across 102 matches, spanning three age categories.
In the Veteran 40s category, Thulanut Thunder led by top scorer Mizhair Sharoz Muhasip took home the championship trophy by beating Brunei’s Azam FT in the final.

Both A10 Pioneers FC A and Tiger FC shared second runners-up position, while the plate title went to A10 Pioneers FC B, with Lagenda SG finishing as runners-up and being honoured with the fair play award.
The Master 50s category saw Selangor-based Club X A emerge top, defeating local favourites Mimpaagat Titan in the final.
Toh Chin Wei of Club X A was the category’s leading scorer with six goals. Meanwhile, the plate stage was ruled by Selangor teams, with Melwood Boys lifting the trophy over Klang Star Selangor.
The Grandmaster 60s category brought local cheer as Mimpaagat Sabah captured the Championship title.
Their success was driven by the outstanding Edward E Emin, the ex-Rhino racked up an impressive 10 goals, making him the tournament’s overall top scorer.
Adding international flavour to the category was the participation of Australia’s Black Swans, and their player Phil Ashton at 73 years old was a standout in the tournament, while Brunei Wanderers earned recognition with the Fair Play Team award.
