KUNAK: Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairmen here have been reminded to carry out their responsibilities with honesty, integrity and accountability to ensure that government initiatives effectively benefit local communities.
Assistant Minister for Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy and Kunak Assemblyman, Anil Sandhu, stressed that those appointed must perform their duties transparently while fostering cooperation within village administrative bodies.

He cautioned against practices such as nepotism or actions that could disrupt community unity, urging leaders to prioritise ethical conduct in serving the people.
“In serving the community, avoid sentiments that divide. Carry out your duties with integrity, and if there are uncertainties, seek guidance from the UPPM unit or the District Office so issues can be resolved collectively,” he said.
He made these remarks during a briefing held in conjunction with the presentation of appointment certificates to JKKK chairmen at the Kunak District Office on Monday.
Anil also emphasised the importance of accountability and avoiding conflicts of interest, noting that the focus should now shift fully towards development rather than political matters.

“Our priority is to improve our villages. Strong cooperation between JKKK bodies, the District Office and UPPM is essential to ensure development plans and community well-being are effectively implemented,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kunak District Officer Majaran Osman highlighted that the role of JKKK chairmen carries significant responsibility, as the committee serves as the backbone of village administration and a vital link between the government and the grassroots.
He also announced that the JKKK structure has been streamlined this year, reducing the number of bureaus from eight to six to enhance efficiency and refine operational functions.
Majaran noted that Kunak faces diverse community needs, ranging from welfare and security to environmental cleanliness and economic activities such as fisheries, agriculture and small businesses.
“All these require active participation and strong commitment from the JKKK,” he said, while calling on all parties to remain united, listen to the people and carry out their duties with sincerity and integrity.
