Pay rise for JKKKs; must hold meetings twice monthly
BELURAN: The allowance for Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairpersons has been increased by RM200 to RM1,000 per month as part of efforts to strengthen leadership at the village level.

The matter was announced by the Minister of Rural Development (KPLB) Datuk Rubin Balang (pic) during his working visit to the Beluran district in conjunction with the closing of a course involving JKKK chairpersons from the Labuk area and its surroundings on Tuesday.

“The allowance increase is accompanied by improvements to the payment system, where payments will be directly credited into recipients’ accounts each month without the need for claims as previously required.

“This step is taken to simplify administrative processes and ensure the welfare of JKKK chairpersons and secretaries is better safeguarded,” he said.

At the same time, JKKK leaders were reminded of their responsibilities as village heads, including ensuring cleanliness, well-being, and the development of their communities remain a priority.

The ministry also emphasized the importance of holistic development covering infrastructure, economy, education, and healthcare to ensure villages are not left behind in current development progress.

To strengthen governance, each JKKK is encouraged to hold meetings at least once every two months, equivalent to a minimum of six times a year. In addition, community clean-up activities (gotong-royong) should be carried out at least once a month to foster cooperation and maintain village cleanliness.

In a related development, the ministry also informed that discussions will be held to coordinate roles between JKKKs under the state and federal governments, particularly involving the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, to avoid overlapping functions and ensure administrative unity at the village level.
