Kuala Lumpur: Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) is urging hotels to offer tourists a minimum 23-hour stay to boost the appeal of Visit Malaysia 2026, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
According to the
Straits Times in a written reply on Thursday, the ministry said the proposal forms part of its marketing strategy for Visit Malaysia 2026 and aims to enhance value for money for consumers.

“We urge hotel operators to offer a 23-hour stay, for example guests could check in at 2pm and check out at 1pm the following day,” the ministry said, adding that the move could improve tourists’ experience and strengthen Malaysia’s competitiveness in the hospitality sector.
However, Motac said check-in and check-out times remain a business decision determined by hotel operators and urged the public to study the terms and conditions set by accommodation providers before making reservations.
The ministry was responding to Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who asked about efforts to standardise hotel and homestay operating hours for Visit Malaysia 2026, noting that discussions are under way with the Housing and Local Government Ministry on possible standards under a review of the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482).
