KUNDASANG: An action committee is urging authorities to both fast-track completion of the new SMK Kundasang campus in Mesilou and approve rebuilding the school at its original site.
Chairman Datuk Japiril Suhaimin said a dual solution is needed to safeguard education access, citing long commutes since the school’s 2013 relocation, rising dropout risks and growing demand from the local youth population.

He said a formal appeal was submitted to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek during her recent visit.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education Malaysia, Dato’ Ts. Dr. Hj. Aminuddin Hassim, inspected the RM30.8 million project site, located about 90km from Kota Kinabalu.
The 15-acre school, serving 946 students, is 88.75 per cent complete as of Jan 31, 2026. Construction began in April 2021 and has been granted five time extensions due to sloping terrain, its position along an earthquake fault line and large boulders at the site.
