Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court on Tuesday heard that Zara Qairina Mahathir deeply loved her friendship with Student A, who has been charged in the Court for Children in connection with Zara’s incident.
Student A’s mother, the 62nd deponent, told the coroner that she knew Zara deeply loved her friendship with her daughter.

She was responding to questions from counsel Shahlan Jufri when asked whether she was aware that Zara deeply loved her friendship with Student A.
Shahlan: You knew that Zara deeply loved Student A?
Mother: Yes, I knew.
Shahlan: You knew that Zara deeply loved her friendship with Student A?
Mother: Yes, I knew, but that was already by June.
Shahlan: From the testimony yesterday and just now, I can conclude that Zara’s presence in the life of Student A, who is your daughter, caused her to be unhappy, under pressure and so on. Can you confirm this?
Mother: At the beginning she was somewhat under pressure, but by June she began to understand Zara. So there were times when Zara caused her stress, and times when Zara made her happy. That is normal in a friendship.
Shahlan: So at the beginning of Zara’s friendship with Student A, Student A actually did not want to be friends with Zara and did not like Zara?
Mother: At first, yes. And one of the factors was me. I was the one who told her.
Shahlan: Can you explain what you mean by ‘I was the one who told her’?
Mother: In the beginning of the school term, Student A would call me every day crying. I asked her why, and she told me about what had happened, and Zara’s name was mentioned again. Then I told her to be friends with other people, not to be friends with her (Zara).
She also testified that she knew the relationship between her daughter and Zara was in good condition since April, as her daughter never mentioned Zara’s name whenever she contacted her.
During the proceedings, two TikTok videos showing Zara, Student A and other students together were played in court.
Shahlan also tendered two photographs during the proceedings.
The mother agreed that her daughter, together with Zara and other friends, looked happy in the photographs and videos.
The deponent also admitted that her daughter liked kek batik very much and that her daughter had told her about Zara’s kek batik, which was made by Zara’s mother.
