Kota Kinabalu: All government-linked companies (GLCs) in Sabah have been urged to further strengthen governance and improve organisational performance to ensure more effective contributions to the State’s economic development.
State Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk James Ratib, said governance improvements are vital to ensure each GLC operates transparently, with integrity and a results-oriented approach, in line with the State Government’s aspirations.

He said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had earlier requested quarterly reports from every GLC to enable monitoring and to ensure they were capable of generating profits that could be returned to the State Government.
“These periodic reports are important to ensure each GLC is effectively monitored and able to achieve the targets set,” he said.
“We want Sabah’s GLCs to be strengthened so that more revenue can be contributed to the State Government,” he said when delivering the keynote address at the Sabah GLC Transformation Convention 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Wednesday.
The convention, organised by his Ministry in collaboration with HRD Corp, was attended by chief executive officers and management representatives from 74 Sabah GLCs.
The State-level convention brought together GLC leadership, government agencies, academia and industry players to discuss transformation agendas, including integrity and accountability, human capital development, financial and risk management, strategic planning, workforce wellbeing and digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
James said the convention also served as a platform to remind and assess all GLCs to consistently deliver the best services to customers and stakeholders.
He also encouraged Sabah GLCs to fully utilise training and courses offered by HRD Corp to enhance human resource capabilities and organisational operational efficiency, noting that the collaboration marked a first partnership with a federal agency to provide such training.
As part of the human capital development agenda, the convention was implemented with HRD Corp Sabah and Jesselton University College, with participation and related training eligible for claims using the HRD Corp training levy.
The convention concluded with a summary and the Sabah GLC Commitment Declaration delivered by Assistant Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Jordan Jude Ellron, reaffirming a shared commitment to continue an integrated transformation agenda for the State’s economic development and the wellbeing of the people.
