KOTA KINABALU: Local tourism operators in Semporna are calling for urgent government action to ensure fair business opportunities and improve basic infrastructure, warning that neglect could threaten the district’s growing tourism industry.
A delegation from the Semporna Local Bumiputera Tourism Operators Association (Puspabumi) met State Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Dr Andi Md Shamsureeza, to raise long-standing concerns.
Deputy Chairman Suffian Ahmad Kenajaan said the current facilities and governance are failing local operators.
“Our first priority is a proper, integrated tourism jetty. The existing jetty is overcrowded, unsafe, and cannot handle the increasing number of boats. Tourists are squeezed, and operators are struggling.
