The festival, which will also feature a Chinese New Year Cultural Village Exhibition, a Children’s Colouring Contest and Spring Couplets Writing, will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Jan 25.
Organised by the United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCA KK), the event will run from 8am to 8pm and is open to the public with free admission.
“The Chief Minister remains committed to supporting cultural activities that bring communities together, regardless of background,” Teo said.
He emphasised that cultural celebrations such as Chinese New Year play an important role in strengthening social cohesion and preserving Sabah’s multicultural identity.
Teo added that cooperation among all stakeholders is essential in ensuring community activities continue to flourish for the benefit of the people.
Meanwhile, a delegation from USCCA KK led by its President Datuk Susan Wong paid a courtesy call on Ben Chong on Monday to personally extend an invitation to the festival.
Susan expressed the association’s appreciation to Hajiji and the State Government for their continued support in promoting Chinese culture, which has contributed to the smooth organisation of community activities, including the annual Chinese New Year celebration.
The delegation included Deputy President Datuk Chua Soon Ping; Vice Presidents and Treasurer Fan Yi Chuan, Fang Kok Hsiung and Chua Kok Cheong; council members Kapitan Dr Chen Kai Li and Tan Ching Seng; Administrative Director Datuk Wong Yit Ming; and Kota Kinabalu Press Club Chairman Ng Kian Keong.
Ben Chong described the festival as a signature Chinese New Year event in Sabah, particularly in Kota Kinabalu, and one eagerly anticipated by the local community each year.
“The State Government places great importance on cultural development and festive activities that reflect Sabah’s rich diversity,” he said.
He added that the State Government will continue to safeguard the rights and interests of all Sabahans and support initiatives that promote unity and mutual respect.
