“In addition to economic benefits, the planting of fruit trees contributes to environmental restoration by increasing green cover, preventing soil erosion, and supporting carbon sequestration.

“Unlike ornamental plants, fruit trees become a permanent and protected component of the local ecosystem, ensuring long-term ecological and socio-economic benefits,” said Julia adding that, the programme also adopts an integrated approach to environmental restoration involving both terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

“These structures are designed to actively restore damaged coral reefs by providing shelter and suitable settlement surfaces for marine life, thereby enhancing local biodiversity and strengthening the resilience of coastal ecosystems.

“The combination of land-based and marine restoration efforts reflects a holistic environmental strategy that recognises the interconnection between ecosystems.

“This initiative supports broader goals related to climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainability of food sources and livelihoods for local communities.

“It also reflects a strong multi-stakeholder partnership involving the corporate sector, humanitarian organisation, and local communities.

“Through the mobilisation of shared knowledge, technical expertise, and financial resources, the partnership promotes environmental sustainability while strengthening community participation through responsible land and resource management.

“Overall, the programme contributes to sustainable development by aligning environmental conservation efforts with community empowerment and long-term economic resilience,” she said.
