TUARAN: Deputy Chief Minister and Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick has proposed that the Federal Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Kuskop) extend the loan repayment moratorium to ease the burden on disaster-hit entrepreneurs in the State.
He said the proposal was raised here on Sunday after the Upko Christmas and New Year 2026 open house at Dewan Seri Sulaman, as Sabah continues to grapple with floods and other disasters affecting businesses.

Ewon explained that his Ministry would recommend the continuation of a previously formed joint committee with Kuskop to better coordinate entrepreneurship programmes and disaster-related assistance for affected traders.
He noted that financing agencies under Kuskop had earlier granted loan repayment relief, including moratoriums of up to six months, and said he would seek confirmation on whether the policy remains in force.
The move, he said, is aimed at ensuring micro, small and medium enterprises can stay afloat and competitive by easing cash-flow pressures caused by disruptions to business operations during floods and other calamities.
