“Congratulations on this proud achievement. Gerald’s success should be emulated, especially by Sabah’s youth, proving that diligent effort and commitment in community development can be recognised internationally,” he said.
Gerald was among 20 award recipients from 10 Asean countries, placing Sabah alongside regional figures recognised for outstanding leadership in poverty eradication and community empowerment. Commenting on the award, Gerald said it reflects collective efforts with rural communities engaged in modern agricultural initiatives.
“Through Farm Tokou, we introduce approaches such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and technology-driven farming systems, supported by skills training and community economic development to generate sustainable supplementary income,” he said.
Since 2023, Farm Tokou has operated in Telupid and Penampang, guiding over 100 rural communities across 10 districts including Sook, Ranau, Kudat, and Papar.
Gerald said the award was not an individual success but a shared achievement with communities committed to innovation in agriculture.
“This award belongs to all communities who believe that modern agriculture can be a catalyst for rural economic development,” he said.
