KOTA KINABALU: TNG eWallet has been officially recognised by the Sabah Labour Department (JTK Sabah) as a digital salary payment method for migrant workers in the state, allowing employers to disburse wages electronically instead of relying on cash.
The approval enables employers, including those operating in remote plantations and worksites, to pay salaries through TNG eWallet using their existing banking platforms via DuitNow bulk transfers, without system integration or additional training.

The move follows earlier approval by the Labour Department of Peninsular Malaysia and supports wider adoption of digital wage payments in East Malaysia.
TNG Digital chief executive officer Alan Ni said the recognition addresses long-standing challenges faced by employers in Sabah, where limited access to banking services has made cash payments the default.
He said more than 100,000 migrant workers nationwide already receive salaries through TNG eWallet, with over RM3.5 billion disbursed in 2025, proving the system is secure and scalable.
Each verified TNG eWallet user is assigned a DuitNow account number, improving payroll transparency, reconciliation and regulatory compliance.
The platform also reduces administrative burden for employers through self-service security features, while providing migrant workers with digital wage storage, cash withdrawal, global payments via the Touch ’n Go eWallet Visa Card, and remittance services to send money home.
