KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry is set to strengthen digital learning, higher education and youth-focused programmes under the 2026 State Budget, State Minister Datuk James Ratib said.
Speaking during the budget debate, he said SMK Sanzac has been selected as the pilot school for the AI-Powered Classroom initiative, launched in July 2025 with Apple and Sasbadi, with plans for statewide expansion subject to teacher readiness and infrastructure.
James also announced plans to develop satellite campuses and TVET hubs across Sabah based on local industry needs, and confirmed official state recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate, enabling UEC holders to access state scholarships, institutions and potential public service roles.
He said the ministry is expanding digital connectivity in rural areas through Starlink installations and fibre upgrades, while upgrading underprivileged schools, with 55 of 216 approved projects completed and the rest underway.
