KOTA KINABALU: Moyog assemblyman Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin has warned that Sabah risks losing its voice over billions in petroleum revenue without representation on Petronas’ board.
Debating the 2026 State Budget, Donald said the Federal Government had agreed in principle in 2021 to appoint a Sabah representative, but the move has yet to materialise, leaving the state excluded from strategic decision-making despite being a major petroleum producer.

He also raised Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement, noting the High Court’s October 2025 ruling obliging federal payment, but said an appeal has delayed settlements dating back to 1974.
Donald proposed forming a professional team of legal, accounting and fiscal experts to defend Sabah’s constitutional rights and calculate liabilities, stressing the need for firm action rather than political goodwill.
While welcoming the 2026 State Budget, he urged immediate steps to address longstanding inequalities, uphold MA63 and ensure Sabah’s interests are properly protected.
