Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said police received an emergency call through the MERS 999 hotline at 3.07pm regarding the incident.
A police team was immediately dispatched to the location to conduct preliminary investigations.
Initial investigations showed that a technician working at the premises spotted what appeared to be a person falling from the upper floors of the building through closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring.
Upon inspection at the front of the building, the man was found lying on the road unconscious. An ambulance team arrived at the scene and confirmed the victim had died.
CCTV footage revealed that Tan had driven a Mercedes Jeep to the location. He parked the vehicle at a designated parking bay before walking to the receptionist counter.
The man, who was wearing shorts and a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses, told the counter staff he was there to collect something and was allowed entrance.
He then proceeded to the top floor where he was believed to have fallen.
A preliminary physical examination by the forensic team found that the injuries sustained were consistent with a fall from height. No suspicious external injuries were found on the victim’s body.
