THE Super League continues this Sunday (Nov 23) after a three-week break. Sabah FC, who are still in search of their first win of the season, will be taking on Penang FC here at Likas Stadium.
Both teams do not seem to have a good run since the start of their campaign, but on paper, we should have the upper hand even though we are sitting second from bottom on the table, while our opponents are two places above in eighth place.
Penang FC have played eight games to date and they have five points from one win, two draws and five losses and we are only a point behind from the four draws and four losses.
Hopefully with the long break, Sabah FC’s players who had injuries have fully recovered and ready to do battle to find the elusive win.
Sabah FC at this point in time have shown very poor display performance wise especially without the injured Darren Lok and Gabriel Peres, and are a big disappointment to the fans in general.
The recent good run in the FA Cup competition to reach the semi-final stage certainly helped to compensate for our poor league form.
To come from behind to score an injury time goal to eventually draw 2-2 with Selangor FC in the first leg semi-final tie at Likas Stadium just before the break has given a glimmer of hope to the fans that the team may finally get back on track.
Here is putting hope on hope that head coach Jean-Paul de Marigny will be able to wave his magic wand and prepare the team well for the match on Sunday.
The first task in hand now is how to attain that long-awaited victory. The onus will be on the players to implement the tactic as planned by the coach.
Playing at home and with the support of the fans should also give Sabah FC the edge.
I hope the players will grab the opportunity to dish out a good and winnable performance.
They must put on the scoring boots, fight for every ball and ready to latch on the second ball. The defence must tighten up and skip ball watching as they did so often this season.
The whole team must stay alert as a unit with great spirit and assist each other in order to get the victory.
This is going to be like waiting for a dream to come true for the fans and hopefully they will not go home disappointed after the final whistle.
Good luck boys!
