Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) is intensifying efforts to strengthen coordination between its state branches and national headquarters to foster regional economic integration and business growth.
MCCC Business Sector Committee cum Sabah MCCC President Datuk Dexter Lau said the chamber’s true value lies in its network of state branches and their ability to connect local communities with national and international markets.
“The MCCC is a unified chamber system, not a loose alliance. People and resources can move freely across states to support one another, this is our unique strength,” he said during a dialogue session with MCCC Terengganu branch council members, recently.
The Terengganu visit is the seventh stop in Dexter’s nationwide tour aimed at bridging communication gaps between state branches and the national platform.
He acknowledged that many branches had been operating in isolation with limited communication with headquarters when he first assumed his role as Chairman.
“I decided to visit every branch personally to understand whether each had different directions. I discovered many were operating in silos,” he said.
Dexter proposed establishing the MCCC Business Sector Committee as an active platform for real communication and collaboration, encouraging each state branch to appoint representatives.
He also urged branches to consider forming cooperatives to promote resource sharing and mutual support across the network.
“A single State’s strength may be limited, but when 10 states unite, that becomes a national force,” Dexter said, adding that the chamber exists to enable the free flow of information, resources and talent across regions.
Meanwhile, Terengganu MCCC Deputy President Datuk See Meng Geok responded by appointing Vice President Datuk Lim Chee Hoow and Deputy Secretary Meiki Lim as Business Sector Committee members, signalling the branch’s commitment to interstate collaboration.
She cited Terengganu’s traditional keropok product as an example of goods that could be marketed to other states like Sabah through chamber networks.
The dialogue was attended by branch leaders including Honorary President Datuk Toh Chin Yaw, President Datuk Dr Leom Joo Deck and several vice presidents and council members.
