PETALING JAYA: Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin affirmed today that Putrajaya will go ahead with its procurement of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children aged five to 12.
This comes after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) endorsed the vaccine for children two days ago.
“82.4% of our adolescents partially vaccinated. 62% fully vaccinated. This will mean #ReopeningSchools safely,” Khairy said in a tweet.
“With FDA panel recommending Pfizer jab for 5-12 year olds, Malaysia will go forward with our procurement of Pfizer for kids. We will also look at other options like Sinovac.”
Recently, a medical panel of US government advisers endorsed the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for those aged five to 11, paving the way for younger children to get their shots.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which convened the meeting, is expected to give its formal green light soon.
As of today, 1,951,450 (62.0%) adolescents have been fully vaccinated while another 640,598 (20.4%) have received one dose of the vaccine.
