PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 16,073 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as recoveries again outpaced new infections.
A record high 24,813 patients were discharged from hospital bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,746,526.
The previous record was 23,473 recoveries on Sept 2.
The latest number of infections represents a dip from the 19,198 cases recorded yesterday.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,995,771.
There are 1,312 patients in intensive care, of whom 967 were confirmed to be Covid-19 positive and 345 were suspected of being infected.
Meanwhile, 698 patients required respiratory assistance, with 444 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 254 suspected of being positive.
Sarawak again saw the highest number of cases with 3,522.
This was followed by Johor with 2,030 cases, Selangor (1,947), Sabah (1,649), Penang (1,243), Kedah (1,191), Kelantan (1,070), Perak (1,011), Pahang (878), Terengganu (704), Kuala Lumpur (398), Melaka (206), Negeri Sembilan (156), Perlis (41), Putrajaya (16), and Labuan (11).
The number of infections in Pahang was a new high, beating the previous record of 853 cases on Sept 10.
There were 16,052 local infections today, involving 14,352 Malaysians and 1,700 foreigners, as well as 21 imported cases.
