Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) is losing trust from Sabahans by the day and is now tasting its own medicine as a back-door government, said Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Deputy President Datuk Hiew King Cheu (pic).
He claimed that Warisan’s performance in administering the state has been rated as poor in the rakyat’s report card.
“People have been questioning if Warisan is even fit to be the government. In the past two years, Sabah’s economy has declined causing much suffering to the people.
“The reason is clear and the people are now worried sick about what is coming next with the economy, development, relationship with Kuala Lumpur and most important the political stability, both state and federal,” said Hiew in a statement.
He said there has also been internal squabbling in Warisan which has worsened its incompetence in governing the state.
“The performance of the Warisan-led state government, which is a back-door government, has been bundled and coupled with problems of internal disagreement and inefficiencies.
“The two years after taking over power from the Barisan Nasional (BN), they have obviously not been steady in delivering much goodies to the Sabahan, let alone a steady economy,” he said.
According to Hiew, Warisan was able to take over and form the government due to other elected representatives joining forces with them to make up the numbers.
“It is sad that they have forgotten how they formed this back-door government,” he said.
On the other hand, Hiew said Warisan members have been using the sentiment to fight the peninsula on the rights of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), but they forget their partners in Sabah namely DAP and PKR.
“During the past two years of Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, there wasn’t much help achieved by these two West Malaysian parties. Now, there are coffee shop talks and news spreading that Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is aiming to be the Deputy Prime Minister,” he said.
“Even Sri Tanjung DAP Assemblyman Datuk Jimmy Wong had repeatedly mentioned that there should be a snap election, only to be left embarrassed by Shafie’s statement saying it was unnecessary.
“Wong may have acted out of ignorance or made a statement without consulting his boss, and his words were shot down immediately by Shafie who had said that it was unnecessary to hold any snap election,” he said.
Hiew said this only shows that members of the Sabah government are going on different tracks.
He said Jimmy’s statement that he will quit his post as an Assistant Minister in the CM’s department to become a back-bencher could be the tip of an iceberg while the two YBs who have left Upko could trigger more to leave this Warisan back door government.
He also noted that Shafie has repeatedly said that he still had enough numbers to hold back.
“It is plain to see that he is worried about holding on to his fort. On the ground, the people are fed up and hate to the in and out, up and down, left and right type of political game, which eventually caused them to become the end losers.
“Nothing benefit the people in the long run, and things do not work out the way they wanted it to be in the first place.
“It is not them (Warisan) who they voted for, but after ganging up, they came in as the back-door government. Now the Warisan group is protecting themselves from the people who are legitimately trying to recapture the state government.
“What comes next depend on the helm and the elected representatives,” Hiew said.
