Kota Kinabalu: Sabah music education developer Datuk Dr Peter Chua aims to make music education more affordable and accessible through an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered learning platform.

Chua, founder of Music Hive, said the AI Tutor programme was introduced to address the shortage of music teachers, particularly in rural schools, while extending music education to institutions such as old folks' homes.

He said the platform offers a library of 3,000 music pieces covering contemporary, classical and traditional genres, while also preparing students for UK-accredited music certificate examinations.

Chua said plans are underway to establish an AI Music Research Centre in Sabah, with paperwork expected to begin in 2027, focusing on developing an AI music examination board and incorporating Malaysian heritage music into the system through partnerships with universities, relevant ministries and organisations.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He said the centre would be developed in collaboration with Music Dream Beijing Technology Co Ltd founder Gan Quan following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Gan and Distinctone Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Dr Janet Lee, with Sabah chosen for its rich cultural diversity and potential for AI music research.
