Kota Kinabalu: Horizon Hotel collected 55 bags of blood during its Annual Blood Donation Campaign 2026 held in collaboration with KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, the Hospital Queen Elizabeth (HQE) Transfusion Medicine Unit and St John Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) Sabah Region on Saturday.
Sales and Marketing Manager Nur Idayu Bujang said the annual campaign was organised to help maintain adequate blood supplies for hospitals across Sabah while promoting blood donation as a shared social responsibility rather than merely a corporate social responsibility initiative.
She said 18 prospective donors were found ineligible to donate after undergoing mandatory health screening, while 18-year-old Muammar Shauqi Marzuky became the campaign's youngest first-time blood donor, reflecting growing awareness among youths of the importance of donating blood.
The programme also featured a Basic CPR demonstration conducted by SJAM Sabah Region, with representatives from KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital and the HQE Transfusion Medicine Unit taking part in the event.
Nur Idayu said every bag of donated blood could benefit several patients and potentially save lives, expressing hope that the annual campaign would continue to receive strong public support and strengthen awareness that blood donation is both a noble act and a social responsibility.
