In addition, the number of candidates who achieved a 4.00 CGPA increased to 158 students, compared to 146 in 2024, while the full pass rate rose to 98.87 per cent.
“These achievements reflect the continued commitment of educators, students and parental support in strengthening academic excellence in Sabah,” said State Education Department Director Datuk Raisin Saidin.
He said this after presenting the 2025 Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) examination results and updates on the State’s educational performance to Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib during a courtesy visit, recently.
James extended his heartfelt congratulations to all Sabah STPM 2025 candidates for their outstanding achievements, particularly Ahmad Mursyied Umair bin Darwis of SMK (Agama) Kota Kinabalu, who brought pride to Sabah by being named the National Best STPM Student 2025 for the Social Science Stream.
He also expressed appreciation to teachers, school administrators and parents for their dedication and commitment in guiding and supporting students towards excellence, thereby elevating the status of Sabah’s education at the national level.
James said the success achieved demonstrates that Sabah’s young people possess tremendous potential to attain the highest levels of excellence and are capable of competing with the nation’s best students when provided with the appropriate opportunities, guidance and support.
During the meeting, the Minister also stressed that English language proficiency should receive special attention as one of the key priorities in enhancing graduate employability and strengthening the competitiveness of the State’s human capital.
In this regard, the Sabah State Education Department has been urged to continue developing and strengthening various programmes and activities aimed at improving English language proficiency among pupils and students at all levels of education.
The State Government, through the Sabah Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Mesti), will provide its full support for these efforts to ensure their implementation is more impactful and comprehensive.
James stated that strong English language proficiency is one of the essential skills that the younger generation must master to enable them to compete in an increasingly challenging and highly competitive world.
