PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department (NRD) has denied viral social media claims alleging a personal data leak involving its systems.
In a statement, the department said the allegations were linked to an incident in 2021–2022 involving an external agency that stored data shared for service delivery purposes, and not a breach of the NRD's core systems.
The NRD said the matter had been addressed at the time, with reports lodged with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The department stressed that no data leak, suspicious transaction or security compromise had occurred involving its core systems, which remain protected by stringent security controls.
The NRD said it would continue strengthening cybersecurity measures and data governance to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of Malaysians' personal information.
