Kota Kinabalu: A 49-year-old man, who took syabu for third time, was sentenced to five years plus a stroke of the cane.
Roger Jainis pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Monica Linsua, after the charge was read to him on Thursday.

He was found to taking the drug at 3.50pm on March 17 this year after his urine was tested positive for drug at the police station here.
Roger has two previous conviction records for taking syabu which were on November 2019 and March 2024.
The charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act, was framed against Suhaimi as he had two previous convictions under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act.
The court ordered Roger to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and after completing the jail sentence, he was also ordered to be placed under police supervision for three years.
During mitigation, Roger who was not represented, asked for leniency saying that he is single and needed to look after his parents.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir urged the court to impose for a heavy sentence on Roger because act as deterent and he was a habitual offender.
Meanwhile, a Filipino was jailed a total of ten months for entering the State illegally and re-entering the State without any valid document after being deported to his country.
On the first count, the Filipino was jailed four months for illegally entry and for the second count, he was sentenced to six months’ jail for illegally re-entering the State.
The Filipino was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department after serving the jail sentence.
He was arrested at the city area during operation by the Immigration Department, recently after failing to produce any travel documents.
