Kota Kinabalu: The Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) is targeting RM300,000 in fundraising through its Charity Dinner Concert this September.

Organising Chairman Dr Mathan Mohan Rao said the concert is being held to raise funds to sustain palliative care services and ensure the continuity of the association’s operations, enabling patients with serious illnesses to receive quality treatment and support.

“We will be hosting a concert themed ‘Feel The Fire, Live The Groove’, which is a charity dinner and entertainment event featuring The Australian Bruno Mars Show. It is scheduled for Sept 19 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

“This programme is vital to ensure our association can continue to operate. This year, we aim to sell at least 150 tables.

“Last year, we raised RM250,000. This year, our target is around RM300,000 to ensure the association can remain operational and continue its efforts to help the community.

“The funds raised will be used to finance home care and day care services, as well as to assist patients suffering from various incurable conditions, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, kidney disease and geriatric conditions,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu here on Thursday.

Dr Mathan said the funds would also be used to train volunteers to enhance their skills in caring for and assisting patients.

“Overall, we require at least RM600,000 a year to cover the association’s operational costs, which include a full-time doctor, four nurses, two administrative staff and a driver,” he said.

He added that PCAKK also plans to acquire its own premises in the future and is currently seeking financial support to realise this plan.

Meanwhile, Palliative Care Patron Meng Tan said the courtesy call was to invite Musa to the charity dinner.
